Specific themes of the Central Africa Platform

When it was created in 2014, the Central Africa Platform (PAC) focused on one area of research. Since then, ULiège and PAC have continued to expand their activities and areas of research to other themes crucial to developing countries in the Central African zone.

Peri-urbanization

A major issue for developing countries, peri-urbanization, studied in a multi-disciplinary way, has enabled a first cross-disciplinary scientific look at the issue of sustainable and inclusive cities. In this context, five doctoral theses have been funded and were finished in 2019. To approach this research, five themes were defined, each giving rise to a thesis topic.

Other themes

Since the defense of the five theses, other important themes for development have been identified, and CAP's scope of action continues to extend to all university cooperation activities. New approaches and activities are being built around research, training and development issues identified as crucial and cross-cutting for local society. They are developed in a mutlidisciplinary and inclusive way through the following themes:

  • Environment and natural resources
  • Health
  • Food security and socio-economic growth
  • Governance and regional planning
  • Cultural dynamics and gender
