Before leaving Belgium

Provide an updated permanent address in the country where you will be moving to the ULiege Registration Office (Inscriptions et Admissions). This address will be our official means of contact in order to send you important information, such as your diploma.

Register with the ULiège Alumni Association, which is an extraordinary network of students and researchers throughout the world.

Make an appointment at the municipality in which you are registered.

• If you were domiciled in Belgium and hold an Annex 8, request to be removed from the "Registre des Étrangers" list.
• If you have an annex 33 and simply declared your presence on the territory but are not domiciled in Belgium, you must still report your departure from the country.

If you are leaving Belgium for a short period and plan to return, check with the local authorities to make sure that your return to  Belgium will not be jeopardized by the risk of deregistration due to your short-term absence.

If you registered with your Embassy or Consulate in Belgium when you arrived, inform them of your departure.

Contact your landlord:

Return the keys and pay any outstanding charges and once all lease agreement have been met, request a return of the rental deposit.

Contact your insurance for your accomodation:

Notify your insurance company (fire and water damage) of your departure to end the contract.

Contact your service providers (telephone, electricity, internet, etc.):

If your rent did not include utility charges, take precise readings of your consumption indexes (gas, water, electricity) and communicate them to your service distributors so that final invoices can be drawn up.

When the time comes, ask for your telephone and Internet services to be disconnected, and for your accounts to be closed.

Finally, make sure that someone will forward any postal mail sent to you and left in your P.O. box after you've left. This is especially important for individuals who must complete annual revenue tax forms.

Contact your Belgian health insurance company (caisse mutuelle) to inform them of your departure from the country.

Return any European health insurance card issued in Belgium. Do not forget to settle any outstanding healthcare costs (e.g. hospital bills not yet sent to your home address) by contacting the billing department of the healthcare provider.

Make an appointment at your bank branch and close your account. Make sure you have your latest account statements.
