Student and doctoral visas • Visa D for studies
A student or doctoral student wishing to pursue higher education in Belgium, or a preparatory year for such education, must apply for authorization to stay in Belgium for more than 90 days.
This page describes the procedures to be followed by students in the following situations:
- People who have been admitted or have obtained a definitive registration for full-time higher education (1st, 2nd or 3rd cycle) at an institution.
- Exchange students enrolled at an institution in a third country.
- Persons registered for an entrance exam or test (e.g.: civil engineering entrance exam).
Doctoral students (whether enrolled in a ULiège doctoral program or in a doctoral program at a foreign university) must complete the formalities for a study visa.
Visa application
It is the student's (or doctoral student's) responsibility to gather all the necessary documents and submit a complete file to the diplomatic or consular post (or intermediary agency) responsible for his/her place of residence abroad.Stay renewal
For students (or doctoral students) already enrolled (with a valid visa or permit that has not expired), the complete application must be submitted to the municipal administration of your place of residence.Useful links
